Width × length, not counting the flap. 2.0 mil is the standard for folded apparel; 2.5 mil adds puncture resistance for heavier or sharp-edged items.

Measure the item flat, add about 2 in to the width and 3 in to the length. The poly mailer size chart covers every size from 6 × 9 to 24 × 24.
10 × 13 for one to three garments
T-shirts, leggings, kids' clothing. At $0.066 a mailer it is the cheapest way to ship anything that survives a 3-foot drop.
12 × 15.5 for hoodies and multi-item orders
Jeans, sweatshirts, two or three pieces in one order. Still a fraction of the weight and cost of a box.
2.0 or 2.5 mil?
2.0 mil for soft goods. 2.5 mil for anything with a corner inside: boxed cosmetics, books, hangers. Both are water-resistant and tear-resistant.

What does mil mean?
Film thickness in thousandths of an inch. 2.0 mil is the everyday standard for apparel; 2.5 mil is about 25% thicker and resists punctures from boxes and hard edges inside.
